2025 was nothing short of remarkable for fly fishing enthusiasts like myself. It was a year filled with incredible moments, new techniques learned, and unforgettable experiences on the water. I spent countless hours honing my skills and deepening my understanding of trout fishing, which ultimately paid off.
One of the highlights of my fly fishing journey last year was improving my trout fishing technique. I dedicated time to understanding the behaviour and habitats of both rainbow and brown trout, which allowed me to strategise my approach effectively. This dedication culminated in a memorable moment catching my personal best rainbow and brown trout! I always believed that the process of learning and mastering various fishing methods is just as rewarding as the act of fishing itself.
Fly fishing is not just about the fish; it's also about the memories created along the way. This past year, I had the joy of sharing these moments with my son. One of our most cherished experiences was when he caught his first wild brown trout. Spotting and targeting the fish through sight fishing added an extra layer of excitement to the achievement. Watching his face light up as he landed his first trout on fly was a moment I will forever treasure. It reminded me of the importance of passing on the love of the outdoors to the next generation. Together, we spent hours on the water and relishing the tranquility that comes with fly fishing.
Another standout experience from last year involved an astonishing fishing session where I managed to catch over 20 trout in just three hours. The rivers were alive that day, it was a day to remember.
This session illustrated the beauty of fly fishing, the unpredictability of the catch and the thrill of being one with nature. These moments remind us why we love the sport so much and why we dedicate our free time to the craft.
As I reflect on last year, it becomes clear that it was not just about the number of fish caught or the personal records set. It was about the journeys taken, the skills honed, and the special moments shared with loved ones. Last year was indeed an amazing year of fly fishing, filled with delightful stories and cherished memories that I look forward to building upon in the years to come.
